Hai Van Pass, South Vietnam 1968. This was a very dangerous road. We lost a lot of men taking and holding this road. Our unit repaired and completed the road through the pass connecting Da Nang and Hue.
Our MommaSan was part french and stood a head taller than all of the other MommaSans. She cleaned our "Hooch" every day, washed our clothes, and cleaned our boots. One day she got into a fight with another MommaSan that was helping herself to our clothes that were drying on a line. She won!
Destruction
School kids. This was taken in the old Imperial Capital of Hue. The Palace wall is on the left.
Black Market. These little roadside markets were everywhere. They seemed to have more beer, cokes, and Winstons than our PX.

Rocketed PX. This is our PX the morning after it and everything in it was destroyed by Viet Cong 122mm Rockets. Fortunately no one was hurt.
Our PX was rocketed and the fire burned everything in the building including this brand new REEL TO REEL tape deck.

It was in Vietnam that my love of photography was first sparked and that flame has burned for 40 years. This image is my offering and tribute to my fellow soldiers who did not share those 40 years of life on earth with me.
This beautiful dancer symbolizes all of those loved ones left behind while her partner in the reflection reaching desperately for her represents all of those souls whose names are carved in the polished stone.
